CASTING: 2 women, 4 men

Late 1970's - early 1980's Rural North Carolina

All performers except Eddie (the bass player) must solo, harmonize, and vocally blend well with the others. South EAST accents are encouraged.

The male members of the cast perform all music live on stage. As scripted, Jim plays acoustic guitar, L.M. plays piano and accordian, Jackson plays acoustic guitar (6 & 12 string), electric lead guitar, harmonica and banjo, and Eddie plays stand-up (preferred) or electric bass. L.M. and Jackson play some high hat. We have some latitude to shuffle these abilities amongst the characters to accommodate the performers and best accomplish the needs of the material. The female characters are required to perform some minor percussion.

Rhetta Cupp: Diner co-owner/waitress. Older sister. Energetic and charismatic.

Prudie Cupp: Diner co-owner/waitress. Younger sister.

Jim: Gas Station co-owner. Good vocal range. Enthusiastic, congenial, front man.

L.M.: Gas Station co-owner. Baritone preferred. Backward, quiet, but likable.

Jackson: Gas Station attendant/mechanic. Tenor preferred. Young, energetic, confident.

Eddie: With no singing or lines the performer develops a "character" through timing sight gags and reactions.

Auditioners will prepare a solo vocal audition (preferably country) and bring sheet music- an accompanist will be provided. CD karaoke accompaniment is acceptable for country music selections. Songs from Pump Boys & Dinettes are acceptable audition material.
