![]() by John Cameron Mitchell lyrics and music by Stephen Trask Hedwig and the Angry Inch a musical June 1-3, 8-10, 2007 (possible added weekend June 22-24) directed by Nicole Tremblay Using songs and monologues, Hedwig tells her story in the form of a band's gig. Starting as a young boy, Hedwig (then named Hansel) leaves communist East Berlin for the hopes of a better life in America with a G.I. named Luther. In order to do so she must get a sex change operation which ends up leaving her not as a woman or a man. With her "angry inch" Hedwig soon finds herself alone with only her music to comfort her. Through her music she meets a boy, much like her former self, by the name of Tommy Speck. They start writing music together and form a relationship that remained strong until Hedwig's past came into light and Tommy steals the songs they wrote and he becomes famous.
