Romanoff and Juliet,
a comedy by Peter Ustinov
October 1st-10th, 2010
Directed by: Greg Miller
Peter Ustinov's classic is set in a small mythical country lying smack on the border between East and West defended by an army of two and a daring General playing one side against the other. Full of the most delightful comic satire on modern times and international affairs, Romanoff and Juliet follows the frustrated romance between Igor, the son of the Russian diplomat, and Juliet, the daughter of the American ambassador against a background of inept and farcical diplomacy. The star-crossed lovers are spared the fate of Shakespeare's when the General intervenes in an ingeniously-devised secret wedding, much to the chagrin of the two ambassadors. Eventually both sides come to the realization that international rivalries pale in the face of true love in this charming tale, one of Ustinov's finest.
